Hi. Here’s my situation: I work remotely, and I need to be online almost as soon as my flight lands. I need a stable mobile internet connection for work calls and messaging. I know that in the arrivals hall at Istanbul Airport, there are counters for all the local carriers, such as Turkcell and Vodafone. But many people say that prices for foreigners there are significantly higher than at their city offices. Does it make sense to buy a local SIM card right after landing, or is it better to wait until I get to the city and save some money?

If I do end up buying one at the airport, which provider would you recommend so I have good reception throughout the city? I’ve heard that with some providers, the internet connection drops out in subway passages or inside older buildings in the city center. I really don’t want to be left without a connection in the middle of the workday. Please share your experiences if you’ve recently bought a SIM card there.

I know what you meanit’s really key to have a connection for work. The SIM cards are quite costly at the airport itself they sell special data plans targeted at tourists with generous data allowances, so they’ll be around 35-40 dollars. Free Wi-Fi is available at the airport. I found out you can do this from this website: https://istanbul-international-ist-airport.com/ . Oh and have a look you may be able to find some relevant information there. If you require internet access straight away I would recommend Turkcell, they seem to have the best coverage around the city in my experience. You will have to provide your passport when signing up for the service, it takes about ten minutes and your phone should work straight away. Is your phone compatible with eSIM?
