Hello everyone! I found an old Thomson CR370P clock radio in my parents’ attic. It looks really nice, kind of retro style, but I can’t quite figure out the controls because the front panel buttons don’t seem very intuitive. I want to put it on my bedside table so I don’t have to reach for my phone in the morning, but I’m worried the display might be too bright at night. Is there a way to dim it? And how do you set the auto shut-off so the radio plays for about 20 minutes while I fall asleep and then turns itself off?

I also noticed a compartment for a “9V battery.” Is that only for keeping the clock settings when the power goes out, or can the device actually run on battery power as well? The power cord is quite short and doesn’t reach my work desk, where I would also like to listen to it occasionally while soldering.

I have had a similar one running for about ten years now. As for brightness, these models usually have a High/Low switch. You can find it on the back or the side, and it should help reduce the glare. The sleep function is also quite convenient. You just press the Sleep button and select a timer interval. Btw, if you have the desire to understand all the hidden functions or to properly replace the backlight, I recommend checking the service manual for THOMSON CR370P. It clarifies the circuit diagram and all the button functions in great detail. As for the battery, the 9V battery is solely a backup so your alarm and configurations don’t revert during a power interruption. The radio won’t work unless it’s plugged in, ’cause that’s just how it’s designed. But I’m guessing you mostly want to use it as a clock, right?
